Brief 6 - YCN: j2o brief.

I started by looking at the current packaging design:

They had their original packaging design revised in 2011 in a bid for their product to look desirable.
Despite this redesign - they haven't achieved their goal.

They mentioned that they want more of a focus on the fact that their products are a mix of 2 fruits so I began by creating vectors of 2 fruits together:

I thought that these could be placed on the back of the bottle.

Also created these fruit segment vectors as i thought they may work well on the neck of the bottle.

I decided i wanted to go for a lableless design as it looks more sleek, sophisticated and mature than having a tacky paper label on the bottle.

Here is an initial deign i did:

The colour of the juice would make a white design really pop and stand out. I chose white rather than black or any other colour as it makes it look refreshing and stand out as much as possible against the juice colour. I placed a leaf shaped label around the neck of the bottle as somewhere for the ingredients to go and add to the design, rather than take away from it.

I took all the colour and the oval from behind the logo to make it more sleek and simple as well as stand out more and look less tacky.

I later revised this design and create a round label for the ingredients that would stick to the bottom of the bottle. I added the vector I created to the neck. I created vectors of the logo and the little fruit illustrations i did and got them cut out on the vinyl cutter on white vinyl to stick onto the bottles.

The next job was designing their 4 pack. At the moment theirs looks like this:

It's ok if a bit tacky and boring. This just looks like any old drinks packaging so I wanted to make it a bit different. Instead of using the net provided I created a net design whereby all 4 bottle sit side by side in a line and can be carried from the top more easily.

This is what i made:

As soon as i printed it and put it together however, I realised I REALLY didn't like it. It was way bigger than i expected and i felt it looked no less tacky than the original logo so i revised my idea.

I'd recently seen these bottle holders that you can attach to things and carry your bottles around.

I thought it'd be really cool to try and create a 4 pack version of that.

I'd mean less packaging and more showing off the sleek new bottle design. Plus, it'd certainly stand out from the crowd.

This is the net I created:

I got hold of some vacuum moulding plastic as it's thing enough to bend but strong enough to carry things. I lazer cut the nets into them.

I quickly discovered that it was only strong enough when 2 were stacked together, but all the same, my design worked.
To add to the requirements I also decided to create a simply ad campaign featuring the new bottles.
I realised that they logo could be used within a word as a 'JO' and instantly came up with the word 'enjoy'. This was good because that's exactly what they are wanting people to do - buy and enjoy their drinks so I used this strap line:

These are my final boards:
